TVM5-Lite implements Nielsen Media Research audio code
As part of the continuing close cooperation between AGB Nielsen Media Research Lab and Nielsen Media Research’s Engineering and Technology group the TVM5-Lite has been enhanced with the capability to detect and report viewing to content encoded with the Nielsen Audio Encoding System.
The Nielsen audio code is used extensively in the United States to identify both live and timeshifted viewing and is inserted by thousands of specially designed encoders in the transmissions of most of the broadcasters. The Nielsen Audio Encoding System has been subjected to extensive tests by the broadcasters, industry bodies and suppliers-all of whom have found that it makes no audible difference to the broadcast. The audio code is inserted by modifying selected frequencies at points in the audio where the difference will be inaudible to the listener and is designed to work with both analogue and digital transmissions.
While the Nielsen Audio encoding system is not yet in use outside the United States the encoders are produced by respected international suppliers of broadcast equipment and are available for other markets. The inclusion of this capability in the TVM5 family adds yet more flexibility to the TVM5 platform helping maintain its position as the most fully featured and flexible TV audience measurement system in the world.
